Aureole design collaboration project with @tanoticrafts – exploring traditional crafts and representing them into present context of contemporary design.

‘Ketupat’ in Malaysia is a type of rice dumpling wrapped in a pouch of woven palm leaves. This series takes inspiration from these hand woven palm leaves, adapting them in rattan.

The design patterns are geometrically layout for the graphic shapes to form when assembled. It is a collection of low seatings that is an adaptation of our Asian floor culture and is expandable into bespoke dimensions base on requirements.

The rattan weavers for this series were produced by the Penan artisans of Long Kawi village residing along the Patah River (Sarawak's Middle Baram region). Rattan craft development is one of Tanoti's community initiatives to introduce sustainable income generating opportunities to Sarawak’s remote forest communities.
