Moon-gates are a common motif in Asian architecture, indicating a passageway demarcating distinct realms. The placement of the bridge for our Moon-gate stool is inspired by zen gardens, where arched bridges walk over lily ponds. The imagery of fish leaping out of water reinforces the idea of passageway or liminality.

In construction, the mortise tenon top combined with half-lap bridle joint for the bridge creates a durable structure to last a lifetime. The rich red/golden yet even tones of wood adds a regal touch to a stool made for robust use and/or decoration.
