Description

Squalane oil has excellent emollient properties, meaning it can keep your skin hydrated and moisturised. Squalane is a great moisturiser as it is easily absorbed and prevents water loss from the skin because our skin recognises it instantly, since it's a form of a substance our bodies naturally produce. Due to this, it gets absorbed into even the deepest parts of our skin quickly and easily, better than other types of face oils.

Squalane actually helps to repair the barrier of your skin and can also increase the luminosity and vibrancy of skin, lessen the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, and even help reduce redness. So when you use Squalane as a face oil, it doesn't just prevent water loss, it also helps protect the skin from the harsh elements in the environment. Squalane also has natural anti-aging, anti-oxidant properties that fights free radical damage in the skin.

What is Squalane?

The first thing to know about squalane is that it’s a hydrogenated version of squalene, a compound produced naturally by our sebaceous glands. The hydrogenation process makes squalane more shelf-stable than squalene and, therefore, easier to use in skin-care products.

Traditionally, squalene is sourced from the livers of sharks, where it can be naturally found in high concentrations. (In fact, this is where squalene gets its name from, as Squalus is a genus of sharks.) However, because of ethical concerns, many major beauty companies have thankfully shifted away from shark-derived squalane and instead have turned to other sources, since the natural organic compound can also be derived from many plants. Squalene is also abundant in olive oil, and can be sourced from rice bran, wheat germ, and sugar cane

Re{me}dy's Squalane Face oil is made from squalene from sugar cane - We find the Squalane made from sugar cane is so far the best for our climate and skin type as compared to the other plant sources.
